Ken was raised in Des Moines, Iowa, in the Beaverdale neighborhood where his office is located. He graduated from Dowling Catholic High School in 1981. He earned his undergraduate B.A. Degree in History from the University of Notre Dame in 1985. He graduated with honors from the University of Iowa School of Law in 1988. Before forming his own practice, he was a partner at the Des Moines law firm of Bradshaw, Fowler, Proctor, & Fairgrave, P.C. In March of 2007, Ken opened Munro Law Office, P.C.
Ken has been married to Mary (Maley) Munro for over 25 years. They have four children. Ken has been active in his community, serving on the Board of Education at St. Pius X Catholic School, coaching and serving on the board for the Des Moines Youth Hockey Association, serving on the board for the Des Moines Capitals High School hockey team, coaching in the Greater Des Moines Catholic Football League, coaching and judging Mock Trial, serving in the Knights of Columbus, and acting as a den leader in the Cub Scouts.
